TOPSHAM — Sara Mae McManus, 83, died May 2. She resided in Winship Green Nursing Home in Bath, battling Alzheimer’s disease the past four years.

She was born in Topsham, Sept. 14, 1930, the daughter of Chester and Susie Staples. She attended Topsham schools and Brunswick High School. She married Harold F. McManus Sr. in Topsham, April 11, 1952.

She was employed at several shoe shops and worked with her husband on their family farm. She was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star and especially enjoyed country fairs, cooking and sewing. She served as a volunteer and member of the Topsham Fair Association and was a member of the Wiscasset Church of the Nazarene.

She was predeceased by a brother, Gerald Staples and a half-sister, Patricia Shaw

She is survived by her husband, Harold, of Topsham; son, Harold F. McManus Jr. and wife, Lee; brother, Rev. Wallace Staples and wife, Sharon, of Woolwich; sister, Esther Whitmore and husband, Robert, of Durham; and a granddaughter, Sara F. McManus.

A graveside service was held at River View Cemetery, Topsham with her brother, Rev. Wallace Staples officiating. Arrangements are in the care of the Brackett Funeral Home. Brunswick.
