FALMOUTH — Sally Barchard, 68, of Falmouth, died May 31 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough, surrounded by her family.

She was born May 13, 1947, in Portland, a daughter of Virginia (Paul) and Rex Barchard. She graduated from Yarmouth High School in 1965, and went on to pursue a 42-year career with Fred S. James Insurance Co., now known as Sedgwick CMS and located in South Portland.

Sally had an avid interest in painting, especially watercolors. She also enjoyed photography, gadgets and technology, kayaking on the ocean, gardening and music. She recently had begun teaching herself to play guitar. She also liked to be behind the wheel of her Mini Cooper.

Barchard was known for her sense of humor, her positive outlook and her devotion to others, especially her niece, her nephew, her other family members and her dogs.

Barchard was predeceased by her parents, her nephew, John Pyles, and her sister and best friend, Linda Pyles.

She is survived by her sister, Diane Higgins, of Portland; her brother-in-law, John Pyles, of Falmouth; her niece, Julie Howland, Julie’s husband, Matt, and their children, Rex and Gracie, of Brunswick; her nephew, James Pyles, and his partner, Craig Bellgraph, of South Portland; her nieces, Susie Gourley, Christine Brown and Betsy St. Pierre; her many former coworkers and her “Belgian family.”

A celebration of Barchard’s life was held June 6 at Lindquist Funeral Home, in Yarmouth.
