FREEPORT — Melanie Sachs has been re-elected for the councilor at-large seat.

Sachs defeated newcomer Doreen Christ, 1,227 to 458, in the race for the seat, which Sachs has held for the past three years.

Leland Arris has been elected as a write-in candidate for the district 4 Town Council seat currently held by Councilor Andy Wellen. Wellen didn’t seek re-election and there were no official candidates in the race.

There were 122 write-ins for the district 4 seat. As of 9:15 p.m. on Tuesday there were no official numbers for Arris and other write-ins, but Election Warden Ed Bonney said it was “very clear” that Arris had won. Arris was also elected to a seat on the Water District Board of Trustees as a write-in.

Freeport saw a voter turnout of 1,882 people.
