AUGUSTA — The South Portland and Cape Elizabeth police departments are among 15 law enforcement agencies to receive state grants to enforce underage drinking laws.
South Portland will receive nearly $15,000 over the next two years, while Cape Elizabeth will get nearly $10,000.
The goal is building community relationships that will outlast the grants, the state Office of Substance Abuse of Department of Health and Human Services said in a press release.
Enforcement details will include underage party patrols, collaboration among agencies, third-party transaction surveillance and compliance checks. Funds will also help investigate and prosecute people who provide alcohol to minors and places for them to consume.
