SCARBOROUGH — The Police Department is warning residents about a scam in which the caller pretends to be the resident’s sick or jailed grandchild. The caller then asks the resident to wire money to Canada via Wal-Mart.
Police recommend verifying the request before wiring money. Take the caller’s return number, but do not use it to call for verification; instead, call the jail or hospital to confirm.
