YARMOUTH — Ruthanne Wheelock, 68, died Jan. 22 at home surrounded by family and close friends.

She was born March 2, 1941, in Gloucester, Mass., the daughter of Charles and Lilla (Wheelock) Smith.

After working for many years in daycare centers, she became a private nanny until she retired in March 2009.

She was an active member of the North Yarmouth Congregational Church, where she sang in the choir and served as a deacon.

She was predeceased by her parents and two brothers, Charles “Chuck”  and Bruce Smith.

Her children were her greatest joy.

Surviving are her daughter Theresa Scott and her partner Kelly Walcott of Minot, and her son Matthew Bornheimer, Petty officer First Class, U.S. Navy and his wife Antonia Vasone of Virginia Beach, Va.; and her close friend Pat Morgan.

Memorial donations can be made to the Homeless Animal Rescue Team, P.O. Box 351, Cumberland, ME 04021.

A memorial service was held Wednesday at the North Yarmouth Congregational Church.
