FREEPORT— Ruth Richard, 88, of Freeport died Sept. 9, after a brief illness.
She was born in Morrill on May 24, 1925, a daughter of Dora and Alphonso Thomas and was educated in local schools. She married Oswald Richard in Brunswick May 26, 1947, and they had two children.
Richard worked for Dr. Michael Contartese, of Freeport for many years. She was an active member of St. Jude’s Catholic Church. Richard loved to spend time outdoors in her vegetable and flower gardens. She also enjoyed knitting and donating mittens and was known for making great cookies.
She was predeceased by her husband in 1982, her son Paul Richard and her grandson Craig Richard.
She is survived by her daughter Ann Webber; granddaughters Lauri Donovan and husband Brian, and Sharon Richard and children Colin, Craig and Jenna; several nieces and nephews and her beloved cat, Suzie.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday Sept. 21, at 9 a.m. at St. Jude’s Catholic Church, 134 Main St., Freeport. A reception will follow in the church hall.
Burial will be in Morrill at a later date.
Donations may be made in Richard’s memory to a charity of the donor’s choice.
