Falmouth students honored

At Falmouth High’s recent Winter Sports Awards night, senior Sara Bachman was given the Sportsmanship Award and senior Tommy Winger received the  Leadership Award. Forecaster Winter Athletes of the Year were also announced and will run in our April 9 edition.

Yarmouth crew fundraiser Saturday

The Yarmouth crew team is hosting a Pizza Regatta Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Yarmouth High School. Tickets are $7 per person at the door. Sample as much pizza as you like and vote for your favorite. Ten local pizzerias will be turning out their best pies for this fun event.

Freeport Middle School spring sports practice begins Monday

The spring sports preseason at Freeport Middle School begins Monday for eight pitchers and two catchers in baseball and softball. Practice for other spring teams begins April 6.

Falmouth Babe Ruth registration

Registration for the 2009 Falmouth Babe Ruth baseball season is underway. All boys who will be 13, 14 or 15 as of May 1 are invited to register. Those who played last year as a 13- or 14-year old must also register.

Casco Bay Sports offering co-ed spring leagues

Casco Bay Sports is offering several co-ed spring leagues. Sunday Basketball begins play March 15 with games at 5:15 p.m. Thursday Dodgeball starts March 26. In April, a 6-on-6 soccer league, a Sunday flag football and a Sunday softball league will commence.

Former Boston Bruins will face local high school players Friday, April 3 at 7 p.m., at the Cumberland County Civic Center. The Portland Firefighters Union is encouraging local residents to show support by making a contribution.

Falmouth sports fundraiser dance upcoming

The third annual Falmouth Sports Fundraiser Dance, featuring the music of ColorBlind, will be held April 3 from 8 p.m. to 12 a.m. at the Italian Heritage Center in Portland. Tickets are $15 per person and should be purchased in advance.

Free promotional soccer clinic upcoming

Freeport Recreation and Community Education, along with Challenger Sports, is offering a free promotional soccer clinic Wednesday, April 22 at the Freeport Middle School gym. U-4 and U-5 go from 12 to 1 p.m. U-6 and U-7 go from 1:15 to 2:15 p.m. U-8 through U-12 go from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.

North Atlantic Figure Skating Club hosting show

The North Atlantic Figure Skating Club will host its 11th annual show April 10 and 11 at 7 p.m. at the Family Ice Center in Falmouth. This year’s theme is “A Night at the Movies” and features 2009 Junior World Bronze Medalists Marissa Castelli and Simon Shnapir. Tickets are $7 for children and seniors, $10 for adults and $20 for premium seating.
