CAPE ELIZABETH — The South Portland-Cape Elizabeth Rotary Club awarded Thomas Memorial Library money to purchase the complete DVD children’s documentary series, “Families of the World.”

This series features 24 DVDs, each profiling families in different parts of the world. An additional DVD based on the book “If the World Were a Village: A Story about the World’s People,” by David J. Smith, will also be purchased with the grant.

Children’s librarian Rachel Davis said she applied for the grant in order to expand children’s understanding of other cultures and help them develop a sense of their own place within the global community. The grant was made possible through the Rotary’s annual Christmas tree and wreath sales.
