NORTH YARMOUTH — Rosalyn Isabel “Ros” Baston, 78, died Dec. 19.

She was born Jan. 1, 1931, in Tobique River, New Brunswick, the daughter of Theodore Robert and Isabel Mina DeMerchant Clark, and attended local schools.

After graduating from Gray Business College, she married Richard Mountfort Baston on  Dec. 31, 1950 and worked as his administrative assistant at Richard M. Baston Inc.

Her adult life was spent dedicated to her church and the Town of North Yarmouth.

For nearly 20 years, she held various elected positions for North Yarmouth, including a North Yarmouth Water District Trustee, North Yarmouth selectwoman, North Yarmouth representative for Cumberland County and a Maine School Administrative District 51 School Board director.

As an active member of the North Yarmouth Congregational Church, she volunteered for many years as a Sunday school teacher, UCC Women’s Fellow, UCC Board of Directors, UCC-Maine conference president.

Her favorite times were family vacations camping in the Allagash Waterway.

She was predeceased by a sister, Anah Clark Card.

She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Richard Mountfort Baston; daughter Gwen and her husband Wayne and son Clark and his wife Marlee; four grandchildren, Jessica Pollard, Nicole Hamilton, Harold Baston and Mark Baston; cousin Albert Childs; three nieces, Dexanne, Darcy, and Doreen; great-grandchild Alexander Hamilton.

A graveside service will be held at Walnut Hill Cemetery this spring.
