CUMBERLAND — Roland E. “Rolly” Powers, 80, died Dec. 29.

Born in South Portland on Aug. 1, 1929, his parents were Herbert and Mabel (Grover) Powers.

After attending South Portland and Falmouth schools, he joined the U.S. Navy in 1947 and was stationed in Hawaii.

He married Patricia Kittredge on Aug. 14, 1950.

Over the years he worked for Cianbro, Allied Construction and Brighton Medical Center, where he worked as a carpenter before retiring.

An avid outdoorsman, he loved hunting, fishing, camping, scuba diving, kayaking, cross-country skiing and mountain climbing.

He also enjoyed traveling in his RV, playing golf, growing vegetables, woodworking, riding his motorcycle and reading.

Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Pat of Cumberland; three daughters, Paula and husband Ken Pike of Standish, Kathy and husband Tim Bailey of Gray, and Susan and husband Bill Chapman of Malaga, Wash.; six grandchildren, Corey Faatz, Valerie Canning, Jennifer Kimball, Jamie Cameron, Lyndsey Chapman and Brock Chapman; three great-grandchildren, Emily and Robert Kimball and Sophia Faatz; his brother, Herbert Powers of Cumberland and sister, Betty Lunt of South Portland; many nieces, nephews; extended family and friends.

Memorial services were held earlier this week.

Arrangements are by Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Road, South Portland.
