BRUNSWICK Roger P. Belanger, 67, died peacefully at home on Aug. 18 after a courageous battle with cancer.

On May 4, 1943, he was born in Brunswick, the son of Napoleon R. Belanger and Lucille M. Belanger and attended local schools

After graduating from Brunswick High School in 1961 he served in the 133D Armor Group of the Maine National Guard.

On Feb. 21, 1976, he married his wife of 34 years, Sharon Eastman.

In 2005 he retired from Bath Iron Works after working as a machinist for 42 years.

For 38 years, he was a member of the Brunswick Lodge Elks B.P.O.E. 2043, and enjoyed cooking with his Elks Lodge friends for lodge functions.

Fun-loving, he enjoyed golf and was always the life of any party.

He was predeceased by his parents, his uncle Bill and his aunts, affectionately known as the “Dollies.”

Surviving are his wife Sharon Belanger of Brunswick; a son, Daryl Belanger of Saratoga, N.Y.; his sister Joan (Belanger) Gerrish and her husband Ret. Col. Roger Gerrish of Brunswick, and Austin, Texas; a niece, Tracy Gerrish and her partner Sandra O’Neal of Kyle, Texas, and nephew, Wayne Gerrish and his wife Cindy of Springfield, Va.; two grandnieces and one grandnephew; and his wife’s extended  family, who loved him dearly.

Memorial services were held earlier this week.

Arrangements are by Stetson’s Funeral Home, Brunswick.
