BRUNSWICK — Robert W. Powers. 70, died Oct. 6 at Mid Coast Hospital.

Born in Boston on Oct. 18, 1938, he was the son of John and Margaret McPhee Powers.

After attending Dorchester schools, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1956 where he served honorably as a Lance Corporal until his discharge in 1959. While in the corps, he served as a mechanic on a helicopter crew.

On May 24, 1960 he married Jeanne Soucy and raised a family in the Brunswick area. In the early 1970s he became an insulator for Bath Iron Works, working there for 25 years before becoming a medical courier for seven years.

In 2006 and 2008, he took two memorable trips to New Zealand with his daughter, Logan.

He was a history and political buff, and his hobbies included swimming and league bowling.

He is predeceased by a son David Powers on Nov. 1, 2007.

Robert is survived by his wife Jeanne Powers of Brunswick, four daughters, Logan Powers of Durham, Dawn Soucy of Brunswick, Darlene Temple and her husband Dennis of Bowdoinham, Darla Richardson and her husband Bill of Topsham; three brothers, Michael Powers of Franklin N.H., Colin Powers of Mass., Jack Powers of Boston, and two sisters, Celia Sorgman and Maureen Daniels, both of Quincy, Mass.; three grandchildren, Daniel Temple of Bowdoinham, Caleb Temple of Brunswick, and Ashlie Richardson of Topsham; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial services were held last week.

Arrangements are by Stetson’s Funeral Home, 12 Federal St., Brunswick.
