BRUNSWICK — Robert Snape, 82, died Jan. 17, with his family by his side.

He was born the youngest of four boys to Aurelie and Frank Snape Sr., on May 29, 1932, in Chesterfield, Mass. He married the love of his life, Joann Mary Rogers, on June 2, 1956. Together they have 10 children.

Snape served for 32 years in the U.S. Navy. After retiring from naval service, he spent another 20 years working for Mid-Coast Hospital in the engineering department and at Mobil gas stations in Brunswick.

Known as a “jack of all trades,” he was a mechanic, carpenter, cook and baker, and even sewed. He was also an avid reader, had an eclectic taste in music and enjoyed many outdoor activities, including gardening, fishing and bird-watching. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, who will miss his smile, kind words and sense of humor.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Joann; 10 children, Robert Snape, Cindy Enman, Michael Snape, Karen McDonald, Terri Snape, Cheryl Bedard, Lori Snape, Dina Snape, Daniel Snape and Wendy Caldwell; 28 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren

Visiting hours were held Jan. 23 at Brackett Funeral Home in Brunswick. A prayer service was led by the Rev. Frank Murray and a potluck reception followed at the Knights of Columbus hall in Brunswick. Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be donated to MCCM, at 81 Medical Center Drive, Brunswick, ME 04011.
