BRUNSWICK — Robert P. “Red” Anderson Jr., 86, died Dec. 24 at Parkview Adventist Medical Center.
Born in Freeport on May 7, 1923, he was a son of Robert Sr. and Caroline (Swett) Anderson.
In 1943 he graduated from Brunswick High School.
On June 17, 1944, he married Phyllis Pomroy. They were married for 64 years until her death on Feb. 6, 2009.
During World War II, he worked for the U.S. Post Office and Stanwoods Gulf Station.
He later worked in automobile repair at Carbone Pontiac, Brunswick Motors and Brunswick Ford. For many years, he worked as the Brunswick School Department transportation foreman, until he retired in 1992.
He loved children and sports of all kinds, and especially enjoyed hunting and fishing with his son in his younger years.
Over the years he was active with the Brunswick Recreation Department Commission, Brunswick Babe Ruth League, Knights of Pythias and the Riverside Cemetery Association.
He was predeceased by his wife Phyllis, his son, Robert P. Anderson III, and a brother, Donald M. Anderson.
Surviving are his daughter, Phyllis Raye Staples and her husband Kenneth of Brunswick; two grandsons, Jason Wilkins of Portland and Darren J. Wilkins of Charlottesville, Va.; two great-granddaughters, Ryan and Lexi of Charlottesville, Va.; a sister, Patricia Hjort of Saco; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services were held earlier this week.
Arrangements are by Stetson’s Funeral Home, 12 Federal St., Brunswick.
