ORR’S ISLAND — Robert E. Wilson, 80, died May 27 at Winship Green, in Bath.

Wilson was born on the island Nov. 13, 1934, the son of Clifton R. and Edwinna J. Wilson. Robert was educated at the Orr’s Island School House.

After enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1952, he served in the Korean War. He was discharged from his naval service in 1960 as a member of the reserves.

Wilson married Mary E. Cheney in 1959, and the couple settled on Orr’s Island. He was employed for many years by Scandia Seafood, and later worked as a lobsterman for Cook’s Lobster.

He loved hunting, camping, Red Sox games, the Topsham Fair horse races, the outdoors of northern Maine, and spending time with his grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his wife, Mary E. Cheney Wilson, on July 27, 2002.

Robert is survived by two sons, Edward E. Wilson and his wife, Barbara G. Wilson, of Brunswick, and Mark E. Wilson and his wife, Penelope J. Wilson, of Orr’s Island; his grandchildren, Bryan D. Wilson and Kevin M. Wilson, of Brunswick, Mark E. Wilson Jr. and his wife, Amelia E. Wilson, of Orr’s Island, Marcia E. Wilson Giles and her husband, Trevor Giles, of Cundy’s Harbor, and Meridith J. Wilson, of Orr’s Island; a great-granddaughter, Brooklynn G. Wilson, of Brunswick; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at the Orr’s Island Cemetery on Sunday, June 7, at 11 a.m., with a reception following at the Orr’s Island School House.
