BRUNSWICK — Rita M. Fortin, 90, of Brunswick, died after a short illness at Mid Coast Hospital on Sept. 29.

She was born Jan. 14, 1923, in Brunswick, the daughter of Joseph and Alice Menard Fortin.

Fortin graduated from St. John’s School and attended Brunswick High School. She was employed at Verney Mill until it closed and later cared for her parents, her aunt Lucie Menard and sisters, Gabrielle and Justine. For many years Fortin was a member of St. John’s choir and helped in many functions in the parish.

She was predeceased by her two brothers, Antonio Fortin and Frank Fortin, and seven sisters, Marie Anne Ouellette D’Isle, Theresa Fortin, Geraldine Masse, Emily Lavigne, Gabrielle Fortin, Gemma Syfried and Justine Fortin.

She is survived by her brother, Chanel Fortin; sister, Flavia F. Dudley; husband, Thomas F.; sister-in-law, Solange Fortin, and several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours were held Oct. 2 at Stetson’s Funeral Home, 12 Federal St., Brunswick. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Oct. 3, at St. John the Baptist Church-All Saints Parish, Pleasant St., Brunswick. Burial followed in St. John’s Cemetery, Brunswick.
