PORTLAND — Richard Morton Jensen, 72, died Sept. 17 at Maine Medical Center after four years of declining health. He was born in Portland on Jan. 15, 1940, a son of Frederick and Christine (Gorwood) Jensen.

Jensen was educated in Portland schools, graduated from Deering High School, class of 1958, graduated from Maine Maritime Academy and served in the U.S. Navy, mostly as a navigator. He retired after a 22-year career and the family moved to Cumberland. He then worked as a letter carrier in Portland for the U.S. Postal Service.

Jensen enjoyed the outdoors. He planted an apple orchard, enthusiastically rode his motorcycle until it snowed and then hopped on his snowmobile for the winter.

Jensen is survived by his wife of 50 years, Carol (Chapman) Jensen; his son, Scott Jensen and his wife, Deborah; his granddaughter, Amanda Smith; his great-granddaughter, Giamae Smith; his brother, Frederick Jensen and his wife, Darlene; and his niece, Stacey Jensen.

At Jensen’s request there will be no funeral services.
