BRUNSWICK ? Richard L. Libby, 80, of Lisbon Road, died Oct. 4 at Mid Coast Hospital.

He was born in Pownal on Oct. 24, 1934, the son of Fred and Mabel Cass Libby. He lived most of his younger years in Standish and attended Standish schools. He married Charlene Washburn in Brunswick on March 21, 1986.

Libby worked for many years at Eastland Shoe Manufacturing in Freeport and, after retiring, was employed in the Hannaford supermarket in Brunswick.

A farmer at heart, he enjoyed working in his shop and his gardens. He always said, “If I can get my hands in dirt, I’ll never go hungry.”

He is survived by his wife, Charlene, of Brunswick; a son, Stephen Libby of Kennebunk; two daughters, Karen Goodwin and her husband, John, of Lewiston and Kim Libby of South Portland; three stepsons, Robert Washburn and his wife, Ann, of Durham, Steven Washburn of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and Andrew Washburn of Brunswick; two sisters, June Rodriguez of Whitefield and Evelyn Marquis of Freeport; two brothers, Clifford Libby of Hiram and Melvin Libby of Windham; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Oct. 8 at the Brackett Funeral Home in Brunswick.
