CUMBERLAND — Richard “Rich” Avelon, 49, of Cumberland Foreside, died peacefully Aug. 3 at Maine Medical Center in Portland, with his family by his side.

He was born March 25, 1966, in Oceanside, New York, the son of Richard and Diane Aversano.

Avelon earned a bachelor of arts degree in computer science, cum laude, from the City University of New York. He went on to eventually work as a partner in financial services at Teradata Corp.

An adventurer who lived life to the fullest, Avelon loved to sail and would spend days at sea with his friends and family. He also enjoyed skiing, and traveled extensively with his wife, Julie, often in search of good food and wine.

Avelon was known for his kind heart, patience and devotion as a stepfather and husband. Soon before his death, he said of his loved ones that he was “always onboard, wherever you go.”

He is survived by his wife, Julie Avelon; his stepdaughter, Michelle Frizalone; his parents; his sisters, Marianne Zirogiannis, Bethann Mazzitelli and Suzanne Castorina; and many friends and extended family members.
