PORTLAND — Richard A. Hobson, 79, a former resident of Waterville, most recently of Portland, died on July 24, at Gosnell Hospice House in Scarborough.

The son of Nell Ross Hobson and Ralph Hobson Sr., he was born on Jan. 15, 1933 in Machias. Hobson the first child born at the newly opened Machias Hospital. 

After graduation from Orono High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in the Korean War. He took pride in his military service and was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post # 5 in Waterville. He attended and graduated from Husson College with a bachelor’s in business.

He married Donna Clark of Millinocket on Feb. 21, 1957. Hobson’s favorite hobbies were hunting and fishing in the Millinocket area, playing golf at Natanis and playing with his beloved dogs. 

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Donna, of Portland; his daughters Karen Hobson of Lewiston, Cris Hobson Tierney and her husband, Kevin, of Falmouth, and Cary Hobson Duprey and her husband Michael of Campton, N.H.; and his two grandsons, Philip and Eric Tierney, of Falmouth; his sister Priscilla Delong and her husband, Bernard, of Dayton, Ohio, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. 

He was predeceased by his parents and brother. 

There was a private graveside service July 28. Arrangements were by Gallant Funeral Home at 10 Elm St., Waterville.
