PORTLAND — The School Board Finance Committee will host a public hearing Wednesday on the proposed $102.8 million school budget for fiscal year 2016. The hearing is scheduled for 6 p.m. in Portland High School’s Alumni Hall.

The committee will also vote that night whether to recommend the budget to the full board.

If referred, the budget will get its first read before the board at a special meeting and workshop on March 24, at 6 p.m., at the Ocean Avenue Elementary School.

The School Board and City Council finance committees will then discuss the budget at a joint meeting on March 26, at 6 p.m., at City Hall. The School Board will decide whether to recommend the budget to the council in a March 31 meeting, at 7 p.m., at Casco Bay High School.

The School Board would then present its recommended budget to the council on April 6, at 7 p.m., at City Hall. On April 9, at 6 p.m., both finance committees will host another meeting at City Hall to discuss the budget.

The City Council will hold a workshop, first reading and public hearing on the recommended budget on April 27. On May 4, the council is scheduled to conduct a second reading and hold its vote on the budget.

A mandated public referendum on whether to approve the budget will be held May 12.
