BRUNSWICK — Republicans in state Senate District 24 on July 14 nominated Tristam Coffin, of Brunswick, as the GOP candidate in the election to fill the seat of retiring state. Sen Stan Gerzofsky, D-Brunswick.

The move comes after Eric Lusk, of Harpswell, who won an uncontested Republican primary in June, withdrew his candidacy. The district includes Brunswick, Freeport, Harpswell, North Yarmouth, and Pownal.

Coffin, 26, a veteran and entrepreneur, was unanimously nominated by the district committee, according to a press release.

Coffin will challenge Democrat Everett “Brownie” Carson, of Harpswell, in the Nov. 8 general election.
