PORTLAND — The School Department on Tuesday announced that Marcia Gendron, principal of Reiche Community School, will be the new principal at East End Community School.

Gendron will move to East End Community School beginning July 1. She will replace Carol Dayn, the principal since 2006, who resigned in April.

Gendron has served as assistant principal and principal of Reiche since 2000. She was previously an assistant principal, staff development coordinator and teacher in the South Portland school system.

She began her career as a special education teacher in Tampa, Fla.

“During Marcia Gendron’s tenure with the Portland Public Schools, she has provided leadership for district initiatives such as the implementation of full-day kindergarten, early literacy acquisition and standards-based progress reports,” Superintendent James C. Morse, Sr. said in a press release.

Gendron holds undergraduate degrees in special education and elementary education from the University of Maine. She earned a Master of Science degree in school leadership from St. Joseph’s College.

A replacement for Gendron at Reiche Community School was not announced.
