SCARBOROUGH — The grand opening of a new McDonald’s at 221 U.S. Route 1 will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday by restaurant owners and town officials.

The new restaurant replaces one built in 1979 and razed in the spring. While similar in square footage, there is also an expanded drive-through area and redesigned access from Route 1 to alleviate traffic congestion.

Owner Bob Hogan will cut the ribbon and also make a contribution to the Scarborough Education Foundation. Hogan also owns McDonald’s franchises in Bangor, Kennebunk, Saco and Wells.
