BRUNSWICK — Raymond R. “Bob” Powers, 82, died on April 2 at his home with his family by his side.

He was born in Bath on May 22, 1929, the son of H. Martin Powers and Eva Saunders Powers.

He attended Bath schools, graduating from Morse High School in 1947, Coburn Classical Institute, the University of Maine and Bartlett Tree Surgery School.

He served two years in the U.S. army during the Korean War. In 1953, he started work at Bath Iron Works as a draftsman, retiring in 1991 as a test supervisor.

On Oct. 10, 1953, he married Jeannine Bisson at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bath.

He loved gardening, selling his plants at the flea market, hauling his few lobster traps and, especially, his grandchildren.

He was a communicant of St. Charles Church-All Saints Parish. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and volunteered at various organizations over the years.

Powers is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jeannine; sons John Powers and his wife, Jane, of Harpswell and Andrew Powers and his wife, Marilyn Berke-Powers, of Brunswick; daughter Mary Cote and her husband, Mark Cote, of Brunswick; seven grandchildren, Nathan Talbot, Abigail, William and Rosemary Cote, Carson, Matthew and Hallie Powers.

He was predeceased by his son, Raymond Powers Jr.; his parents; sister Catherine Powers; brother Henry M. Powers Jr.; and a nephew, Henry M. Powers III.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 9, at St. Charles Church-All Saints Parish, 132 McKeen St., Brunswick, with the Rev. Frank Murray officiating. Interment at Calvary Cemetery in Bath will be at a later date. There will be no visiting hours.

Memorial donations may be made to CHANS Hospice Care, 60 Baribeau Drive, Brunswick, ME 04011 for the extraordinary care and services provided to the family, allowing Powers to remain in his home during this difficult time.
