HARPSWELL — Raymond L. Bailey Jr., 86, died Oct. 22 at Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick.

Bailey was born in Portland Aug. 23, 1926, a son of Raymond L. and Erma Latham Bailey. He attended local schools and graduated from Brunswick High School. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean War.

For many years, Bailey worked at Pejepscot Paper, from where he retired. He was a member of the Topsham Memorial American Legion Post #202. He enjoyed flower gardening and bird watching, as well as viewing NASCAR racing and figure skating on TV.

He is predeceased by his wife, Pauline Prindall Bailey, who died Feb. 4, 2002; a son, Kevin Bailey, who died in 2010; a brother, Robert Bailey; a sister, Anna Bailey; half-brothers William Bailey, Robert, Richard and Clayton Ramsay; and half-sisters Margaret Bailey, Barbara Bailey, V. Patricia Chick and Rita Lebel.

Surviving are his three sons, Clifford Bailey and his wife, Kristina, of Harpswell, Donald Bailey and his wife, Mary Anne, of Chesterfield, Mich., and Stuart Bailey, of Lewiston; two half-brothers, Carleton Ramsay and wife, Janice, of Gorham, and Donald Ramsay and wife, Pauline, of Vallejo, Calif.; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A celebration of his life will be held from 1-4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 4, at the Harpswell Grange Hall. If desired, donations can be made in Bailey’s memory to The ALS Association, Northern New England Chapter, The Concord Center, 10 Ferry St., Suite #309, Concord, NH 03301.
