PORTLAND — Delivery of rails for the upcoming Amtrak Downeaster service expansion to Freeport and Brunswick is expected to cause traffic delays at railroad crossings in the city on Wednesday and Thursday, Oct. 27 and 28.

The delays are expected on Riverside Street near Washington Avenue; at Morrill’s Corner; at Woodfords Corner; at Congress and St. John streets, and at the crossings through Deering on Saunders, Woodford, Revere, Lincoln, Coyle, Ashmont and Prospect streets.

Delays up to 30 minutes long are expected to begin at noon and continue until 6 p.m.

Updates on delays will be posted on the city website, portlandmaine.gov, as information becomes available from the Northern New England Passenger Rail Authority.
