POWNAL — Starting Feb. 21, two dozen roads in town will be closed to vehicles that weigh 23,000 pounds or more unless the roads are “solidly frozen.”

According to a news release from the town, roads are considered solidly frozen when the air temperature is 32 degrees or lower and no water is showing in the cracks of the road.

The posted roads are Brown Road, Chadsey Road, Depot Road, Dows Lane, Durham Road, Fickett Road, Hodson Road, Lawrence Road, Leighton Road, Libby Road, Loring Lane, Merrill Road, Minot Road, Poland Range Road, Royal Road, Sweetser Road, Tryon Road, Tuttle Road, Upper Minot Road, Verrill Road Wilson Road and Allen Road from Elmwood Road to Fickett Road. 

Postings will be lifted May 1, or earlier if possible.

Exemptions include emergency vehicles, public utilities, municipal vehicles, home heating fuel delivery trucks and bulk milk/bulk feed trucks with a Maine Department of Transportation exemption certificate.
