The postseason is now underway in every sport but boys’ hockey and there’s already been plenty to hail, with a lot more on the docket.

Here’s a glimpse:

Boys’ basketball

Brunswick and Mt. Ararat’s boys’ basketball teams closed the regular season against each other and they will renew acquaintances in the quarterfinal round of the Eastern A tournament Saturday at 5:30 p.m., at the Augusta Civic Center.

The Dragons wound up second to defending state champion Hampden Academy in the Eastern A Heal Points standings with a 13-5 record following a 70-55 home win over Oxford Hills and a 45-36 victory at the Eagles. Blake Gordon had 20 against Mt. Ararat.

The Eagles lost at home to Lewiston (56-47) prior to the Brunswick loss to finish 7-11 and seventh in the Heals. Shyheim Ulrickson had a team-high 15 points against the Dragons, while Mason Griffin added 13.

The teams split in the regular season (with Mt. Ararat winning at Brunswick, 68-64, Jan. 11). The winner gets either No. 3 Bangor (13-5) or No. 6 Oxford Hills (11-7) in the semifinals Wednesday of next week in Augusta. The Eastern A Final is Friday in Augusta and the Class A Final is Saturday, March 1, at the Cumberland County Civic Center.

In Western B, Morse went 14-4 and wound up second to Greely. The Shipbuilders closed with wins at Maranacook (71-66) and at home over Lincoln Academy (70-56) and will either play No. 7 Lake Region (9-9) or No. 10 Fryeburg (8-10) in the quarterfinals Saturday at 12:30 p.m., at the Portland Exposition Building. Morse didn’t play either team this season.

The semifinals are Thursday of next week, at the Cumberland County Civic Center. The Western B Final is Saturday in Portland and the Class B state game is Friday, Feb. 28, at the new Cross Center in Bangor.

In Western D, Hyde wound up 16-2 and second to Forest Hills after finishing with a 70-25 home win over A.R. Gould and a 70-47 setback at Waynflete. The Phoenix will play No. 7 Seacoast Christian (10-8) or No. 10 Buckfield (5-11) in the quarterfinals Saturday at 10 a.m., in Augusta. The Western D semifinals are Wednesday of next week, the regional final Saturday and the state game Saturday, March 1. All rounds will be played in Augusta.

Girls’ basketball

On the girls’ side, Brunswick was the lone team to qualify. The Dragons finished fifth in Eastern A with a 10-8 mark after closing with a loss at Oxford Hills (57-42) and holding off host Mt. Ararat in overtime (52-49). Brunswick will battle No. 4 Cony (12-6) in the quarterfinals Friday at 7 p.m. in Augusta. The Dragons beat the visiting Rams in the season opener, 56-53, and lost to them in Augusta, 61-53. If victorious, Brunswick will likely draw No. 1 Edward Little (17-1) in the semifinals Wednesday of next week. The regional final is Saturday, Feb. 21. Both rounds are in Augusta. The Class A Final is Saturday, March 1, in Portland.

Mt. Ararat just missed the playoffs after finishing 3-15 and 11th (only nine teams made the cut). The Eagles closed with a 54-53 loss at Lewiston and a 52-49 overtime loss to visiting Brunswick.

In Western B, Morse finished 11th at 6-12, but only 10 teams made the field. The Shipbuilders closed with a 51-36 home loss to Maranacook and a 44-33 loss at Lincoln Academy.

In Western D, Hyde wound up 14th at 3-15 after finishing with a 67-26 home loss to Waynflete. Only 10 teams qualified.

Hockey

On the ice, the Mt. Ararat girls made the playoffs for the first time, but as the No. 5 seed, lost, 7-0, to No. 4 Yarmouth in the East Region quarterfinals to wind up 5-13-1.

On the boys’ side, Brunswick was 8-6-1 and third in the Eastern A Heals at press time heading into Wednesday’s game at St. Dom’s The Dragons host Cony Saturday and close at Poland/Gray-New Gloucester Wednesday of next week.

Mt. Ararat/Lisbon was eighth at 8-8 (only seven teams make the playoffs) after a 4-0 loss at Edward Little Saturday. The Eagles go to Massabesic Monday and close at home versus Lawrence Tuesday.

Indoor track

At the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference indoor track championships last weekend, Brunswick’s girls were first in the Class A division, while Mt. Ararat came in sixth.

The Dragons got a win from Anna Cowan in the high jump (5 feet), Michele Richards in the shot put (32 feet, 5.5 inches), Teresa Murphy in the mile (5 minutes, 24.16 seconds), Tessa Cassidy in the two-mile (12:10.53) and Tiffany Tanner in the 800 (2:27.56).

In the boys’ meet, won by Edward Little, Brunswick came in fourth and Mt. Ararat placed fifth. The Dragons got a win from their 3,200 relay (8:50.92) and from Christopher Tanner in the 800 (2:05.59). The Eagles got a wins from Justin Pierce in the high jump (6-0) and Andrew McCracken in the pole vault (13-0).

The Class A state meet is Monday in Gorham.

Swimming

Brunswick excelled as well in the KVAC swimming championships, winning the boys’ and girls’ titles in Class A. Mt. Ararat’s girls were fourth and the boys came in fifth.

In the boys’ meet, Brunswick’s Nate Sampson was named “Swimmer of the Meet,” after setting a league record in the breaststroke and the individual medley.

On the girls’ side, Brunswick’s Caitlin Tycz set a new league record in the butterfly, while the Dragons’ 200 free relay (Emma Blair, Lynsie Russell, Madeline Cowan and Tycz) also set a new league mark.

In Class B, Morse’s boys won the championship, while the girls placed second to Camden Hills.

The Class A state meet is Saturday (girls) and Monday (boys) in Orono. The Class B state meet is Monday (girls) and Tuesday (boys) at Bowdoin College.

Skiing

At the KVAC Nordic championships last week, Mt. Ararat’s boys were fourth and girls fifth.

Wrestling

At the Eastern A wrestling regional championships last weekend, Mt. Ararat came in seventh and Brunswick placed 11th. The Eagles produced 152-pound champion Roberth Hetherman. The Dragons were led by 106-pound runner-up Christian Jensen.

Morse competed at the Western B regionals and came in ninth. Hunter Reed won the 152-pound title. Raz Baltazar was runner-up at 160.
