Somali elders gathered together recent college graduates, younger students & family on Aug. 15 to praise the educational efforts of the students and stress the value of education as a basic part of making a better life in the United States. Here Osman Hersi (back to) tells of his struggles in coming to the United States. Earlier Mohmoud Sowe, an admissions counselor for The University of Maine talked about admission requirements the students must meet to enroll at the school. The gathering was promoted by the Somali Culture & Development Society of Maine.
