PORTLAND — Purple is the color as the city increases the price of garbage bags required for collection by the Department of Public Services.

The new purple bags cost $1.35 per 15-gallon bag and $2.70 per 30-gallon bag. The prices were $1 and $2 for corresponding sizes of blue bags. Residents can continue to use previously purchased blue bags until Oct. 4, or exchange them at stores or at the city DPS office at 55 Portland St., the City Hall Treasury Office at 389 Congress St., or the Riverside Golf Course at 1158 Riverside St.
