Portland’s Caroline Lerch wins the shot put with a throw of 30 feet, 3 inches in the girls’ 11-12 age group at the recent Maine USA Track and Field championships. Lerch also won the discus with a top throw of 79-1. Other individual winners from the Portland Recreation Youth Track club included Mimi Banksmith in the girls’ 11-12 100 meters (14.46 seconds), Darcy Lally in the girls’ 13-14 pole vault (7-0), Nathan Blades in the boys’ 9-10 400 (1 minute, 12.40 seconds), Jason Hargesheimer in the boys’ 9-10 800 (2:43.31), Ben Horrisberger in the boys’ 11-12 long jump (15-4) and Alex Troxell in the boys’ 13-14 1,500 (4:48.12). Elizabeth Littell, Hadley Poirer, Megan Cunningham and Kimberly Cough combined to win the girls’ 4×400 meter relay in 5:09.54. Awen Deng, Madison Alves, Alec Troxell and Ethan McCarthy won the mixed 13-14 4×100 meter relay in 56.20 seconds.
