South Portland police said Portland resident Joyce Gauthier, 48, was able to walk away from her 2010 Toyota Corolla on Tuesday morning after it was crushed between a tank truck hauling gasoline and a Toyota pickup truck. The accident occurred near the intersection of the Maine Turnpike Spur and Main Street around 7:55 a.m. as vehicles were slowing down at the traffic lights at the intersection. Tank truck driver and Kennebunk resident Frederick Smith, 48, told police he was blinded by glare. Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland said Smith hit Gauthier’s car and pushed it into the pickup truck, driven by Scarborough resident Russell Legare, 46. Smith was not cited by police.
