PORTLAND — Police in Westbrook and Portland are investigating shots fired into a home and a car overnight Saturday, but would release few details Sunday afternoon about either case.

Citing an ongoing investigation, Police Lt. Bob Doherty said Sunday that shots were fired sometime overnight into a car parked on Birchvale Drive, in the Deering neighborhood, not far from Brighton Avenue.

Doherty said police do not believe anyone was in the vehicle at the time the shots were fired.

“There is no indication right now that anyone was injured, but we’re still taking this matter very seriously,” Doherty said.

He declined to say how many shots were fired into the black, midsized sedan, or the caliber of the gun.

Doherty would not say what time neighbors called police during the night to report the shots, or whether police have any suspects.

“We’ve undertaken an extensive investigation process that is still ongoing,” he said. “We’re still piecing things together, but no one is in custody.”

Just after 4:30 a.m. Sunday, Westbrook police were called to a single-family home at 430 Bridgton Road (Route 302), for reports of multiple shots fired into the home.

No one was injured in the shooting, according to Westbrook Police Sgt. Anthony Ciampi. Ciampi also declined to release many details, including the number of shots or whether anyone was home at the time. He said police from both communities are investigating whether the incidents are related.

Ciampi asked anyone with information about the Westbrook shooting to call Detective Sgt. John Desjardins at 854-2531 ext. 2414, or the Tipline at 591-8117.
