PORTLAND — City Manager Jon Jennings will serve as moderator at a 5 p.m. public forum on the use of highly automated vehicles on city streets.

The forum will be held at the East End Community School, 195 North St.

Panelists will include John Branding, government and external affairs director of BMW Group; AAA of Northern New England spokesman Patrick Moody, and Avery Ash, head of autonomous mobility at INRIX.

Portland is one of seven cities participating in the INRIX AV Road Rules project, described as a platform for the city to “to communicate with operators for safe and effective deployment of HAVs on public roads,” according to city spokeswoman Jessica Grondin.

In a Sept. 18 press release, Jennings said the city is studying whether use of highly automated vehicles will be a component of traffic management and easing congestion on city streets.
