PORTLAND — The public is invited to a community forum at Ocean Gateway Terminal on the effects of opiate use in the city.

The Wednesday, April 6, forum is at 6 p.m., with doors opening at 5:30, according to Bridget Rauscher, who coordinates programs for the city Substance Abuse Prevention Program.

Rauscher said a panel will include Police Chief Michael Sauschuck, Portland Substance Use Prevention Program Director Chris Corson, Portland Recovery Community Center Director Steve Coutreau, Milestone Foundation Executive Director Bob Fowler and Chris Poulos, of the Maine chapter of Young People in Recovery.

The public can also learn about what to do in the event of an opiate overdose, how to get access to naloxone, which blocks the effects of an overdose, and what resources are available to help those affected by substance use disorders.

Fore more forum information, contact Rauscher at 874-8798 or bridget.rauscher@portlandmaine.gov.
