PORTLAND — Shana Genre, an English teacher at Deering High School, was honored by the School Board for being a model teacher and an exceptional poet.
Genre received the Editor’s Choice award from Littoral Books for her poem, “The Seed,” which was published in the book, “Balancing Act 2: An Anthology of Poems by Fifty Maine Women.” In all, Genre had four poems accepted for inclusion in the anthology.
Genre was recognized for her accomplishment at the board’s Jan. 22 meeting.
