PORTLAND — Eighth-graders at King Middle School are collecting food, warm clothing, bedding and basic kitchen items for the city’s most vulnerable residents.

The students are participating in an ongoing “Freedom from Want” community service project for their Four Freedom learning expedition.

Needed items range from can openers to pots and pans to sleeping bags and warm blankets to winter jackets and boots to pasta and other nonperishable food items. Call the school at 874-8140 for more information.

The drive, which began earlier this month, runs through the first week of December. All donations can be brought to the main lobby at King Middle during regular school hours. The school is at 92 Deering Ave. in the Parkside neighborhood.
