PORTLAND — Property owners can now apply for credits to offset the cost of new storm-water service fees that will be assessed beginning Jan. 1, 2016.
The monthly fee will be $6 for every 1,200 square feet of property.
Credits can be awarded for measures to reduce the flow or contamination of storm water, including the use of ponds or rain gardens. The full manual for the credit program can be found on the city website, along with credit applications.
The fees, which will be assessed on all public and private property owners, will help fund projects to reduce the flow of contaminated storm water into Casco Bay. Fees for city sewer users will be reduced $1.50 per hundred cubic feet beginning Jan. 1, 2016.
