PORTLAND — The annual St. Patrick’s Day parade along Commercial Street will step off at noon on Sunday, March 17.

Organized by the Irish American Club of Maine, the parade begins at Commercial and Center streets and will march to Bell Buoy Park, near the intersection of Commercial and Franklin streets.

Commercial Street will be closed to vehicles from Center to Pearl streets from 11:45 a.m.-12:30 p.m. From 12:30-1 p.m., Commercial Street will be closed from Pearl to Franklin Streets. Intersections along the route will also be barricaded.

The day also includes events at the Irish Heritage Center, at the corner of Gray and State streets, where at 8:30 a.m. the public is invited to meet for a neighborhood walk that ends with raising the Irish flag at Harborview Park on York Street. Coffee, tea and soda bread will be served at the center from 9-10 a.m.

Following the parade, the center will reopen for an afternoon of Irish music and food, with a cash bar.
