Portland football names second Hall of Fame class
The Portland High football program has chosen seven new inductees for its Hall of Fame. The list includes 2002 Fitzpatrick Trophy winner Carl Frye, 1985 Fitzpatrick Trophy winner Joey D’Andrea, three-time all-state running back Peter O’Malley, two-time all-state selection Paul Vachon (who went on to play at the University of Rhode Island), all-state nose guard and center Gene Gillies and Joe Sabsteanski, Class of 1939, who played at Fordham University and spent three years in the National Football League with the Boston Yanks. The ceremony is Nov. 26 at 6:30 p.m., at the Italian Heritage Center in Portland. FMI, 329-5224.
