Portland girl earns Hall of Fame scholarship
Portland High senior Casey Monaghan, the school’s Fall Female Athlete of the Year, will be one of 10 recipients of a $1,500 scholarship at the Maine Sports Hall of Fame banquet Sunday. Monaghan, who was nomiated by her school, also played ice hockey, lacrosse and ran indoor track during her high school career. She ranks 24th in her class and will attend St. Joseph’s College and study nursing.
Watson caps strong senior season in Florida
Former Deering High catching standout Matt Watson recently completed his senior season playing for Pompano Beach High School in Florida by being named to the first team all-county team by the Miami Herald, after hitting .446 with 9 home runs and 34 RBI. Watson will attend Boston College this fall.
Waynflete coaching openings

NYA basketball camp offered

Lacrosse pick-up league starting

Sunday lacrosse clinics offered
Cheverus boys’ varsity lacrosse coach Deke Andrew and other top coaches from the area will be hosting weekly Sunday lacrosse clinics from June 7 through Aug. 9 at Deering High’s Memorial Field. The cost is $75 for five weeks or $150 for 10 weeks. The program is a mix of instruction and game play and is open to boys and girls entering grades 2 through 8 next fall.

Southern Maine Community College is hosting its fifth annual athletic department and foundation fundraising golf tournament June 16 at Prouts Neck Country Club in Scarborough.
