PBC fighters split at Women’s National Golden Gloves

Portland Boxing Club welterweight Lisa Kuronya, the former five-time national champion, lost a 3-2 split decision to Andrecia Wasson of Indianapolis, Ind., last weekend. Kuronya will retire from competition and become an assistant coach with the Club. Featherweight Liz Leddy beat Alexandria Stein of Kansas City, Kan., in the semifinals, but lost a 4-1 decision to Melissa Roberts in the final, giving her the silver medal. 

Deering alumni soccer game upcoming

The fourth annual Deering High School alumni soccer game, sponsored and organized by the Vera Foundation and the friends and family of the late Scott William Fisher, Jr., will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 25, on the fields behind the high school.  The eventwill spread awareness about suicide prevention and celebrate Fisher’s life. Portland High Sailing registration coming due

SailMaine seeking coaches

SailMaine is seeking fall coaches for its high school teams. Assistant coaches are also sought. The season begins in mid-August and ends Oct. 31. Teams practice three days a week from 2:30 to 6:30 p.m. FMI, sailmaine.org.

Seacoast United holding tryouts

Seacoast United Maine is holding tryouts for its winter/spring teams July 26 at North Yarmouth Academy. U-9 through U-14 boys go from 9 to 11 a.m. U-15 through U-18 boys go from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Girls’ U-9 through U-14 tryout from 1 to 3 p.m. U-15 through U-18 girls go from 3 to 5 p.m. FMI, seacoastunitedmaine.org.

Lacrosse clinics upcoming

Grip and Rip Lacrosse clinics, featuring instruction in a fun setting for grades 2-5 and 6-8, will be held Tuesdays from 6 to 8 p.m., from July 21 through Aug. 18 at the Yarmouth Middle School fields. The cost is $125. FMI, gripandriplacrosse.com.
