Legion season winding down

The American and Junior Legion postseasons are set to begin. The latest Zone 4 standings had Deering High-populated Nova Seafood boasting a 12-4 mark. First Title (comprised of Cheverus High players) was 8-9-1. Andrews Post (Portland High) was 5-13. Only four teams make the zone playoffs this season and the winner will be determined by the end of the weekend. The Junior Legion standings feature Deering with a 12-4 mark and First Title at 2-12. The top 10 teams make the playoffs, which are being held this week. We’ll have more on the postseason in next week’s edition.

Deering alumni soccer game upcoming

The fourth annual Deering High School alumni soccer game, sponsored and
organized by the Vera Foundation and the friends and family of the late
Scott William Fisher, Jr., will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday,
on the fields behind the high school.  The event will spread awareness
about suicide prevention and celebrate Fisher’s life. Admission is
free. Donations are appreciated. The girls’ game is first and the boys

Portland Hurling Club seeks members

The Portland Hurling Club, a Junior C team affiliated with the Boston Gaelic Athletics’ Association, will be playing 8-to-a-side with light contact rules Saturdays July 25 and Aug. 1 at 5:45 p.m., at Wiley Field in Scarborough. SMCC accepting Hall of Fame nominations

Southern Maine Community College is currently accepting nominations for
its annual Athletics Hall of Fame class. Nominations can be received

Portland High School is seeking a freshman boys’ soccer coach for the

SailMaine seeking coaches

Come join us at SailMaine this Fall to coach a group of talented high school sailors on Casco Bay. We are looking for competent, professional coaches to coach one of our high school teams. Teams practice together three days a week from 2:30 to 6:30 p.m. We are also looking for assistant coaches. The season begins in mid-August and ends on Oct. 31. FMI, sailmaine.org.

Seacoast United holding tryouts

Seacoast United Maine is holding tryouts for its winter/spring teams Sunday at North Yarmouth Academy. U-9 through U-14 boys go from 9 to
11 a.m. U-15 through U-18 boys go from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Girls’ U-9
through U-14 tryout from 1 to 3 p.m. U-15 through U-18 girls go from 3
