Local gymnast wins age group title

Portland’s Ava Gaudet recently won the 2010 USA Gymnastics Maine championship for her age group in Level 4. Gaudet is a member of the American Flyers Gymnastics team and trains at the Maine Academy of Gymnastics in Westbrook.

Cheverus player to attend Sacred Heart

Cheverus girls’ soccer player Amanda Royer will play soccer and attend Sacred Heart University, a Division I program, next school year. Royer was accepted into the school’s nursing program. She was a three-year varsity player for the Stags and served as a team captain as a senior.

SMCC baseball ousted from USCAA tourney

The Southern Maine Community College baseball team went 1-2 in the USCAA national baseball tournament, held a the refurbished Ballpark in Old Orchard Beach earlier this week. The Seawolves, ranked 10th, beat Penn State-Greater Allegheny, 5-3, but lost, 2-1, in extra innings, to Briarcliffe, and 11-4 in a rematch with Penn State-Greater Allegheny. SMCC wound up its season 20-24.

Free LaxPros clinics upcoming

Former Boston Cannons goalie and LAXPRO Kevin O’Brien will host a free goalie clinic for boys’ and girls’ in grades 3-12 Sunday, May 23 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at Falmouth High (the field behind the gym). At the same time and location, current Boston Cannons and Boston Blazers defenseman Jack Reid will conduct a defensive skills clinic. The same age group is invited to attend. Twilight Baseball League tryouts upcoming

The 2010 Twilight Baseball League, which includes teams in Auburn, Biddeford and Portland, will hold tryouts May 30 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Frozen Ropes Training Center in Portland. SMCC hosting golf tournament, seeking Hall nominations

Inaugural Tri-for-the-Y upcoming

SailMaine benefit upcoming

The Shakdown Regatta, featuring sailboats racing on courses inside Portland Harbor, will be held Saturday, June 5 as a benefit for SailMaine’s community sailing program. FMI, sailmaine.org.

Adult hockey club seeking players
