Nova Seafood wins NH tournament

Perennial American Legion baseball powerhouse Nova Seafood, consisting of players from Deering High School, won the 35th annual Karl “Gubby” Underwood invitational tournament last weekend in Keene, N.H. Nova won the title for the fourth year in a row, tying Keene, N.H. (9-9) and beating Haverhill, Mass. (12-2), St. Albans, Vt. (3-2), and Essex Junction, Vt. (3-2), in the final. In that one, Travis Wade hit his first home run to account for the difference and Jamie Ross went the distance to earn the victory on the hill.

Terwilliger makes mark at Nationals

Cheverus running standout Jack Terwilliger was the two-mile emerging elite champion at the recent New Balance High School Outdoor Track Nationals. Terwilliger just completed his junior year at Cheverus.

Portland soccer stars excel overseas

Portland High boys’ soccer players Fazal Nabi and Austin Wilcox, along with other local players, were part of a U-16 USA team which won the recent four nations soccer tournament in Durham, England, beating England (3-2), Wales (1-0) and Scotland (3-0). Wilcox had two goals in the win over Scotland.

Box lacrosse tournament coming to Portland

Portland’s Fitzpatrick Stadium will host the Rock The Box, 5-on-5 National Box Lacrosse tournament Friday and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. each day. Box lacrosse is played with four field players and one goalie and has the same rules as field lacrosse. FMI, rockthebox.com.

Tim Thomas Hockey Camp upcoming

Current National Hockey League All-Star, USA Olympian, Vezina Trophy winner and Boston Bruin Tim Thomas will host a hockey camp July 26-30 at the Falmouth Family Ice Center. The camp is for forwards, defenders and goalies, boys and girls, ages 6 to 17. FMI, timthomashockey.com.
