Former Cheverus star earns Maine Baseball Hall of Fame nod

Portland’s Dennis Gratto, a one-time All-Conference outfielder at Cheverus High School and a longtime proponent of the Twilight League, is one of 11 new inductees into the Maine Baseball Hall of Fame. This year’s induction ceremony is July 31 at the Holiday Inn by the Bay. Tickets can be obtained by calling 883-0154 or 846-3460.

Former Boston Bruins greats to play in all-star game

Former Boston Bruins standouts such as Kenny Linseman, Ken Hodge, Andy Brickley, Bobby Beers, Don Marcotte, Frank Siminetti and others will face local male and female high school all-stars Friday, April 1 at 7 p.m. at the Cumberland County Civic Center. Deering football coach steps down

Longtime Deering High football coach Greg Stilphen stepped down last week, ending his 14-year tenure as the Rams’ head man. Stilphen led Deering to an undefeated season and the 2003 Class A title. Overall, he went 83-52, led the Rams to the playoffs on 10 occasions and guided Deering to the regional final last fall. The school is in the process of finding a successor.
