Portland girl wins Hoop Shoot state title

Portland’s Brooke Dawson won the Elks Hoop Shoot foul shooting contest’s girls’ 12-and-13 age division championship Sunday at Cony High School in Augusta. Dawson qualified for the New England finals March 24, which will be held at Deering High School. Henry Westphal was runner-up in the boys’ 10-11 age group. Jack Casale was third in the boys’ 12-13 division.

PBC fighter advances

Portland Boxing Club novice welterweight Jayson Richter, a former U.S. Marine and current pre-med student at the University of Southern Maine, advanced to the New England Golden Gloves finals with recent wins over Anthony Collins of Lewiston and John Haley of Burlington, Vt. Richter joins PBC teammates Jeremy Witham, Casey Kramlich, Juan Lopez and Liz Leddy in the finals, to be held in Burlington, Vt., Saturday.

Men’s basketball tournament upcoming

MPL preseason lacrosse session open

Maine Premier Lacrosse’s Session III preseason lacrosse is open for all age groups.
