Costigan named Cheverus coach

Dan Costigan is the new boys’ basketball coach at Cheverus High School, replacing Bob Brown. Costigan graduated from Cheverus in 1982 after leading the Stags to two state titles. He also played football and lettered in outdoor track in high school. Costigan served as Brown’s assistant and has taught English at Cheverus since 2004. He previously served as a head boys’ basketball coach at Scarborough High School from 1988 to 1992 and was the men’s basketball coach at the University of Southern Maine from 1997 to 2003.
“Cheverus has always been a special place for me and my family,” Costigan said. “Returning to teach and coach at Cheverus eight years ago seemed so natural and this feels the same. I’ve had an incredible experience working with Coach Brown, he’s the best. He’s been a mentor, a boss, but most importantly, a great friend. Following a legend is never easy. All I can do is be myself and work as hard as I can.”
